{fun with polymer clay}

Hello and Happy Hump.day to you:)
I have spent the day crafting away...which always makes me super happy:)

But whenever I start getting really crafty my brain starts going in a million different places.
Truth is....I am sooooo wishy washy.
Sometimes I think I drive my friends NUTS with...
what do I really want out of life.
I want a shop...
No I want to just stay home and have an on-line shop..
Maybe I just want to teach craft classes...
Oh wait...what about a wine shop...
Maybe I should .....
Or I could .....on and on.
Sometimes my brain and my heart hurt......
Don't get me wrong...I am more than thankful for the job I have...{i'm a special education teacher} and for the life I have....
But as you know {i've talked about it before}....I just really think there is more for me out there:)
but I just don't know what it is or how to go about getting there!!
Do you ever feel that way!?!?!? Sometimes I feel like I am all over the place:)

I had a talk with my step sister in law and she told me that people are either afraid to fail or they are afraid to succeed.

I think I am afraid of both...haha:)
I am a super motivated person and have no problem going after things I want...but this is one area of my life that I just can't figure out!
And after just losing my step father .... I stop and think that life really is NOT forever!
Makes me afraid that I won't ever make it.
Like life is just going to pass me by without me ever getting to follow my dreams.
But then there are times where I feel like I am already moving in the path that is headed toward my dreams.
Confusing.

What are your thoughts....do you ever feel this way....or am I just crazy!?!?! heehee!!!

Geesh.....thanks for letting me get that off my chest!
I really value your opinions and really appreciate each and every one of your comments:)

Alright now onto to some happy creating!
I spent the day getting ready to make my driftwood sailboats! I think i'll list them in my etsy shop when they're done!
What do you think!?!?!?
My shop was supposed to be for my jewelry but I think I want to add more of the things I make....there I go again...wishy washy:)

They even have some Lake Michigan sand left on them:) :)
I think they are so cute and can't wait to make the sails for them! But that's for tomorrow!

I also spent the day tinkering with polymer clay!
I just love that stuff! So simple and yet so fun:)
I made these super cute magnets! I think they would make great gifts.
You could give these as a gift with a cute little chalkboard frame and make someone super happy:) :) :)
Oh and of course include a sweet little photograph of the beach!

Just roll the clay out and cut it like you do cookies! Stamp it with whatever words you want. Bake it according to the package directions. Paint it and waalaa.......
Oh and I did press fabric into it before I baked them....just to give it a little texture!

Even if I never figure out what I want to do when I grow up.....I know for sure that i'll always be creative!!!!
It just makes me so happy!

I also made some cute little tags...
or wine charms if you'd rather!
Perfect for a hostess gift.....
cute little wine charms and a great bottle of wine....
I know i'd be happy if you showed up with that to my house:):)
Same directions.....just use a circle cutter this time and poke a little hole for the twine or whatever you choose to use!
They're rustic and imperfect. simple and oh so cute:)

So there you have it....
A little share a feeling session from me and a happy little craft to do this weekend!
Let me know how it turns out if you do either one!!!

Have a super happy rest of your week:) :)

It's a helluva start, being able to recognize what makes you happy. ~Lucille Ball

  2. Oh Heather - where do I begin? Reading this particular blog today just brought up the same feelings I have! I am 25 and (I know it sounds silly to some people but I have been wanting to go to cosmetology school) I feel like I have done NOTHING with my life. I got married 3 years ago and that has been wonderful but I feel like lack of finances has caused my husband and I to put our lives on hold which obviously isn't great. Now about a month away from my 26th birthday we are "forced" into having a child for healthcare reasons. Well child or hysterectomy. We really do want kids but I had a plan dagnabbit and things aren't going according to that plan.

ANyway - I feel just like you described sometimes and I know that things will get better but everyonce in a while I let the anxeity take over.

I read your blog daily (even if there aren't updated posts) to be inspired by your pictures of the beach, your recipes, and your creations.

Also, I like you even more now that you are a special education teacher! When I was in school I took a class where the students would mentor the "mentally disabled" kids. It was one of the most wonderful experiences I have had in my life. I swear that class was more for me than for the kids I was mentoring.

Anyway - thanks again for always being here when I need it.

  3. Your boats are great! I just went and got some fabric for some driftwood boats that I hope to make in the near future from driftwood that I found up North! Can't wait to see how your turn out! Love the magnets and the tags too! Very cute!
I completely and totally understand where you are coming from! I have no idea what I want to be when I grow up!! I don't really like my job right now but it helps out. I love to made frames and jewelry and putz around around my house. I get all kinds of ideas in my head and then jump in feet first without really ever taking a look and usually wind up not finishing what I started! I think that I am creatively ADD, or something like that! :) I am all over the place!

Life does not wait for us, I learned that about 4 years ago when I had open heart surgery at the age of 32. After that I got a little carried away with things thinking that I HAD to do everything and get everything before my time was up. That was not a good place either. I have since slowed a bit but still need to find that happy medium of life!
You will find something, you are so creative! I think it is just trying to find that balance! Good luck to you and if I hear of any secrets on how to do that, I will let you know!! :)

  4. Great post...I think we all have days when we wonder just exactly which direction we should go. You are not alone. On another note, you need to market your wine tags to winery gift shops....they'd fly off the shelves!

  5. I love driftwood. I look forward to seeing the finished product.

As far as following your dreams....and being wishy washy - well to me, that is a normal and healthy stage of life. Many of us go through that in our lives, some earlier, some later - where we question what we really want to do. All your doing is just thinking through your options... its no different than trying on a dress for a special occasion, you keep on trying them on until you find the one thats the perfect fit.

It seems like you are so talented and have so many wonderful options ahead of you and all I can say is - do what you have a passion for. Your very fortunate - because right now - you have a profession that really makes a difference - a special education teacher can change the entire course of someone's life. Thats a pretty big deal.

S odon't worry - keep on thinking and "trying on" different ideas...the right path for you will appear when you are ready to receive it.

  6. It's normal for us to question our direction, to feel an urgency about life after losing someone (or having a close call.) And interesting that you're making boats while floating in a sea of uncertainty. Creativity is your personal lifeline. Keep embracing it!

While wondering about your path, you're making a difference in the lives of others, having fun, & feeding your creative soul... your journey itself is pretty special.

    As are you.
    Peace,
    Julia~

  7. Hi Heather, Did you receive your prize yet? please let me know if it doesn't arrive, I mailed it last Monday. :O)

I love your boats and magnets and charms, very creative! You're very inspiring and don't feel bad about being wishy-washy sometimes, that happens to all of us. Especially in this day and age with the internet and computers giving us so many options, it can pull us in so many directions! Be glad that you have so many interests, some people can't find any. Life is a fun journey where you never stop growing and trying to figuring it all out. Mary :O)

  8. You are so creative..., and it makes you so happy. There you go! Simple. I very much relate to your issue and have done this and that, tried this and that..., until I finally got to the point of some clarity about what I really want and love (which is the same thing), and how I want to live my life. I warn you though..., it might be where your biggest fears hide, haha!

  9. From all the beautiful things we can glimpse on Simple Daisy, you're evidently a creative person:)
So keep trying and see where it goes. You might surprise yourself along the way!

  10. Hiya!! I dig those driftwood boats!

And, I think everyone has those thoughts! Your not crazy!

  11. I think we all feel that way from time to time Heather...you are not crazy!! I absolutely love these little tags and magnets!!! Did you just use regular wooden block stamps for the letters? I need to try this!!! You are such an inspiration! Maybe the shop or the classes would be the right thing for you!!! Share that creativity girl!!

  12. Hey Girlie...

I share your creativity ADD! I am also all over the place. You have NO idea how many things I have for various types of crafting. My problem is that I need to be unemployed to do most of those things because I can't stay focused! Hopefully soon that will happen! I know if anyone else is reading this they are thinking I'm crazy, but after I sell a business & a house, I am going to be unemployed for a while (other than my online biz) & enjoy life & pursue things that I have set aside.

I'm like you. I always have ideas running through my mind. I just wrote another one down the other night. Just keep a list going - sort of like a bucket list - & be sure to make time for the things you want to do. We often get so wrapped up in things that we forget to "stop & smell the roses", so to speak. I agree that when you lose a loved one, it makes you open your eyes a bit & reflect on life. When I lost my grandfather I went through the same thing & it's been sort of ongoing. There are a lot of "what ifs" that come up. You just have to live your life without regret & make the most of what you have, no matter what that might be.

You are an inspiration to me. I look forward to reading you blog posts & seeing what fun ideas you are sharing.

Just remember.....you are NOT alone in your confusion! :)

    hugs...

  13. Well, Heather...it seems like we're all in the same boat as you are! lol! I feel the same way you do especially when I'm traveling to someplace new. I think, "Wow! There's a whole nother world out here I need to see! I need to get out and explore more, travel, meet more people!" But....then I'm always so anxious to get back to my sweet house and snuggle in with my dogs and hubby. Believe that being a spec ed teacher, you are giving so much of yourself just doing that. You're a blessing already! And I agree with the gals who commented before me, keep making those boats and tags and sell them in your store! They're adorable! :)

  14. Heather,
I think you are incredibly talented and creative, and you can be or do whatever you want... You just have to want it badly enough. And your current career choice also shows a heart of gold! But if your feelin like there may be something else...it'll probably hit you when you least expect it!
I love your blog...you inspire me
to do more diy and exercise! Keep up the good work!
PS ...What is the name if the beautiful shade of aqua you used on picture frames in your craft room??

  15. OMG..I feel like this ALL the time. I'm with you - I'm scared of failure...but success seems scary too!

I LOVE all of your DIY projects and it inspires me - have you thought about putting them into a book? Create your own DIY beach crafts? They would sell like crazy around here in Charleston. And if anything, you need an Etsy shop so we can all buy your amazing creations!

  16. Life is such a crazy journey. Wouldn't it be great if there were a map, or an "if" this "then" this? Or a garuntee that you will find happiness if...I can completely relate to this post. I find somtimes that I really want to follow what I think are my dreams, but then those change or I find they were not what I expected.

What I try to do now is remember that "everything that I want I already have" and search for my dreams and passions in the life that I have. I always have new interests and want to follow them but I know that my joy in life is in what I have, my little boy and husband.

I still do wonder about my purpose though, and have fears that time is escaping me. I think that will always happen.

Your blog is amazing ~ it is like a little retreat. I love visiting. It is inspiring, you are inspiring.

  17. I like the words, "Expect the unexpected." Just when you think you've figured out a direction, something comes along to change it.

Like you, I'm a dabbler, trying out all sorts of things but finding that I end up loving decorating more than anything...I was once a special ed teacher but the unexpected happened and I ended up in magazines.

Now I'm supposed to plan for retirement and can't figure out what to do with it...I've enjoyed my magazine life so much that I don't want to leave...I keep searching for new ways to go but nothing seems as intriguing...it's troubling. At least I know what makes me happy--decorating!

  18. Graceful Vintage..
I can't remember the exact color....but it's just spray paint from Hobby Lobby!! I think it's just called aqua:)

  19. Well I for one, think you should end up with a show on television. All your decorating, craft ideas and recipes would be a perfect fit. Then you could have your hubby come on and show how he built a deck in a weekend! Oh, and there'd have to be a fitness segment and wine tastings, of course. Yes, I would definitely watch the Simpledaisy Show.

  21. You sound just like me! Are you a March baby too?! I love everything you make and I have to say your blog is one of my most favorites. I love all things beachy! Your tags and magnets are adorable. I really want to pick up some of this clay and give it a whirl. I think you are so right about life being short and following your dreams! An online store is, of course, less overhead cost but it would also be great to have a shop decorated all cute and meet customers face to face. Hmmm. Can't wait to see the finished sailboats!
