I had the best surprise last night:)
After my gramps passed I asked grandma for their old bikes. She gave them to me and I was thinking of fixing up my gramp's bike....the other one is a Schwinn so I didn't want to do too much to that one.....but gramp's bike was just an offbrand.....I thought it would be fun to make a super cute beach cruiser out of it!
Just so happens that my friend's husband loves to redo bikes!!!
We had them over last evening and they surprised me with it!!!
It was so strange because gramps has really been on my mind lately.....maybe he knew my {his old} bike was finished:) Who knows.
I picked the color and accessories and he went to town:)
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But it really will be super meaningful to be able to ride around on his old bike!!
I wonder what he'd think about the sprucing up job!?!? haha!
HERE IT IS!!!!
and here's the before........
can you believe the difference!?!?!? He is so talented! I told him he needs to go into business redoing bikes:)
Just a couple fun photos with the twinkle lights that I draped around the new deck:)
I love hot summer nights! They are the best:) Plus it was even better because of my "new" cruiser:)
Now I just need a basket ......
but I can't decide....
I was thinking of making one out of that old wood???
Or a metal one.....or a wicker one??? I can't decide:)
What do you think????
Oh and the best part....he used wine corks for the valve stems!! How cute!
Mike....I know you'll read this....Thank you...Thank you...Thank you! You have no idea how meaningful this is to me:) I REALLY appreciate it! You ROCK!
There you go....if you have an old bike just laying around....maybe you too can give it a new life:) Next weekend we are going to the Saugatuck, MI and I can't wait to ride my beach cruiser around!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a great and beachy weekend:)
"Life is like riding a bicycle - in order to keep your balance, you must keep moving." ~Albert Einstein
Love it! How incredibly special.
ReplyDeleteAww...that's a great bike & I love the fact that it has such a special meaning.
ReplyDeleteToday is my grandfather's estate sale. I'm so glad I'm not there to witness it. It's been so hard thinking about all of his things being sold. The farm will be gone soon, as well.
So, it's kind of a sad day for me. But, I am SO thankful for all of the wonderful memories I have of him. I am waiting for my mother to send me a box of things that were his. It's good to have things like that to hang on to...keepsakes, you know.
Have a great weekend, Heather! BTW..did you get the floats yet?
k
It looks so cute! I bet your gramps would be happy to know you were able to give his bike a new life! Great quote by Einstein!
ReplyDeleteI love it, so very clever of your friend to use the corks. Looks great with the brown seat and handles too:)
ReplyDeleteKamichia...I did get the floats~~
ReplyDeleteI am planning on doing a post about them sometime soon!! I used them around my pond! Cute:) I love them!!!
How wonderful to be able to have your grandparents old bikes. The redo is just darling. That is just about my favorite color on earth too! The cork is a cute touch. I love your twinkle lights! A wooden or wicker basket would be really nice I think. Can't wait to see what you come up with. ;)
ReplyDeletethat is so cool and how special to have your gramps bike. it is indeed an heirloom that was simplydaisyfied!
ReplyDeleteOh WOW... the bike is soooo loverly. Totally groovy too! Could not have a better color and the brown seat and handles totally rock it.
ReplyDeleteDi
I'm sure you will always treasure that bike. Your friend did a great job.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd go wicker basket. Maybe with a cover of some type to make it look like a picnic basket.
Have a great time on your trip!
That is exactly the color of beach cruiser I've been wanting...with leather seats and handles too! He did an amazing job! I think your Grandpa would be impressed and it would give him joy to know you cherish it so much! YOu will look so cute on it!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a thoughtful friend! Love the color! Wicker basket for sure:)
ReplyDeletewhat thoughtful and talented friends! there should be booming business for this kind of thing..with the country going back to basics! def wicker basket, i'd keep my eyes open for a vintage one :) happy pedaling!
ReplyDeleteLove the bike! The color is just right. I think an old wicker or wooden basket would be perfect for it. And of course the basket would be adorable adorned with a daisy.
ReplyDeleteI just recently discovered your blog through my friend Janey over at Constant Chatter of the Crazy Cruisin' Chick and I LOVE it! I'm a beach lovin' girl and I adore your style. Thanks for sharing all your wonderful ideas!

It turned out beautifully! Just your color, and the leather details are simply perfect.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

That looks Great!! And, I am a sucker for wicker! I would deff go with a wicker basket!! My bike got stolen im June. Stinks! I live a mile from work and planned to bike everyday... nope!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your bike rides!!
ah-dorable!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great memory of your gramps! And a wonderful way to honor him for sure. Love the colors you chose. Definitely beachy-chic! And I would go with a wire basket. It would kind of match the spokes on the bike.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend riding!

I love your bike redo and the fact it was your grandfather's makes it all the more special. The color is perfect. It has to have a wicker basket! No question about it, just goes with the vintage look.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great weekend.
My best - Diane
Mike did an incredible job! What a lucky girl you are to not only have a friend like that to redo your bike, but your grandfather's bike at that, sooo cool.
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for Fall, when hopefully a new beach cruiser will be finding its way to my home. I'm going for the pale pink, but definitely with a wicker basket.
Just thinking, maybe one day my granddaughter will be thrilled to get mine.
awe very sweet that it's your grandpa's ~ love the sprucing up you did!
ReplyDeletei'm crazy for cruisers as well : )
how very sweet! i love it. your pictures are all great & very artistic. impressed, as always : )
ReplyDeleteWow-your bike is awesome and your deck looks beautiful. what are you going to put in your basket-I have a metal one and it can hold up to 10 lbs. Will wicker start to rot if it gets wet?
ReplyDeleteI must say I love the look of wicker ones-however mine is for groceries so I wanted to be able to put in melons and milk.
That will be something to hang on to if for no other reason than sentimental ones! Great refinishing job.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nice comments about my burlap trimmed slipcover on Sally Lee by the Sea blog. She copied my blog without my permission. If you want to see the tutorial on the slipcover visit me at

It looks great. Enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there has ever been a cuter or more special bike... *ever*! Unbelievable restoration job and the personal touches are the icing on the cake!
ReplyDeleteHappy riding...and have a great weekend! xo J~
I think the bike is wonderful and adorable! A wicker basket w/a daisy on it would make it big time. I think GridIron also said that. Too cute - enjoy riding and thinking of your Grandfather. He'd be proud!
ReplyDeleteI bet your grandpa is watching and smiling about your new beach cruiser!!! What an awesome job your friend did!! LOVE the color!!! And your new twinkle lights are ROCKIN! LOVE them!!! Such a happy blog you have my friend!! Have a great weekend!!
ReplyDeleteA bike facelift!! And a nice one, too! Oh, I'd opt for the wicker basket with a wooden lid that you can decorate with beach-cruiser painting on the lid or attached objects.
ReplyDeleteKeep on cruisin'
Lucky, lucky girl. It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMike did a wonderful job of recreating this bike. You are so privileged to have such a good friend...who even thinks of the wine cork valve cover. Now that's someone who knows you!
ReplyDeleteJane (Artfully graced)
I am completely envious of this bike! It's adorable! I love everything about it, from the color to the handlebars. You've got quite a treasure there! I want a new bike now!
ReplyDeleteLove the color!
ReplyDeleteI rode my bike today 11 mile. Love biking.
