{Beach Cruiser Love}

Good Morning and Happy Friday to you!!!
I had the best surprise last night:)

After my gramps passed I asked grandma for their old bikes. She gave them to me and I was thinking of fixing up my gramp's bike....the other one is a Schwinn so I didn't want to do too much to that one.....but gramp's bike was just an offbrand.....I thought it would be fun to make a super cute beach cruiser out of it!
Just so happens that my friend's husband loves to redo bikes!!!

We had them over last evening and they surprised me with it!!!
It was so strange because gramps has really been on my mind lately.....maybe he knew my {his old} bike was finished:) Who knows.
I picked the color and accessories and he went to town:)
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But it really will be super meaningful to be able to ride around on his old bike!!
I wonder what he'd think about the sprucing up job!?!? haha!

HERE IT IS!!!!
and here's the before........

can you believe the difference!?!?!? He is so talented! I told him he needs to go into business redoing bikes:)

Just a couple fun photos with the twinkle lights that I draped around the new deck:)

What's that.....WINE!!!!! Notice the ice cubes....it was so darn hot last night that I needed them to keep my wine cool!
I love hot summer nights! They are the best:) Plus it was even better because of my "new" cruiser:)

Now I just need a basket ......
but I can't decide....
I was thinking of making one out of that old wood???
Or a metal one.....or a wicker one??? I can't decide:)
What do you think????

Oh and the best part....he used wine corks for the valve stems!! How cute!
Mike....I know you'll read this....Thank you...Thank you...Thank you! You have no idea how meaningful this is to me:) I REALLY appreciate it! You ROCK!

There you go....if you have an old bike just laying around....maybe you too can give it a new life:) Next weekend we are going to the Saugatuck, MI and I can't wait to ride my beach cruiser around!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a great and beachy weekend:)

  1. Aww...that's a great bike & I love the fact that it has such a special meaning.

Today is my grandfather's estate sale. I'm so glad I'm not there to witness it. It's been so hard thinking about all of his things being sold. The farm will be gone soon, as well.

So, it's kind of a sad day for me. But, I am SO thankful for all of the wonderful memories I have of him. I am waiting for my mother to send me a box of things that were his. It's good to have things like that to hang on to...keepsakes, you know.

Have a great weekend, Heather! BTW..did you get the floats yet?

  5. How wonderful to be able to have your grandparents old bikes. The redo is just darling. That is just about my favorite color on earth too! The cork is a cute touch. I love your twinkle lights! A wooden or wicker basket would be really nice I think. Can't wait to see what you come up with. ;)

  8. I'm sure you will always treasure that bike. Your friend did a great job.

I think I'd go wicker basket. Maybe with a cover of some type to make it look like a picnic basket.

Have a great time on your trip!

  11. what thoughtful and talented friends! there should be booming business for this kind of thing..with the country going back to basics! def wicker basket, i'd keep my eyes open for a vintage one :) happy pedaling!

  12. Love the bike! The color is just right. I think an old wicker or wooden basket would be perfect for it. And of course the basket would be adorable adorned with a daisy.

I just recently discovered your blog through my friend Janey over at Constant Chatter of the Crazy Cruisin' Chick and I LOVE it! I'm a beach lovin' girl and I adore your style. Thanks for sharing all your wonderful ideas!

  15. What a great memory of your gramps! And a wonderful way to honor him for sure. Love the colors you chose. Definitely beachy-chic! And I would go with a wire basket. It would kind of match the spokes on the bike.

    Have a great weekend riding!

  16. I love your bike redo and the fact it was your grandfather's makes it all the more special. The color is perfect. It has to have a wicker basket! No question about it, just goes with the vintage look.
Hope you have a great weekend.

  17. Mike did an incredible job! What a lucky girl you are to not only have a friend like that to redo your bike, but your grandfather's bike at that, sooo cool.

I'm waiting for Fall, when hopefully a new beach cruiser will be finding its way to my home. I'm going for the pale pink, but definitely with a wicker basket.

Just thinking, maybe one day my granddaughter will be thrilled to get mine.

  20. Wow-your bike is awesome and your deck looks beautiful. what are you going to put in your basket-I have a metal one and it can hold up to 10 lbs. Will wicker start to rot if it gets wet?

I must say I love the look of wicker ones-however mine is for groceries so I wanted to be able to put in melons and milk.

  21. That will be something to hang on to if for no other reason than sentimental ones! Great refinishing job.

  23. I think the bike is wonderful and adorable! A wicker basket w/a daisy on it would make it big time. I think GridIron also said that. Too cute - enjoy riding and thinking of your Grandfather. He'd be proud!

  25. A bike facelift!! And a nice one, too! Oh, I'd opt for the wicker basket with a wooden lid that you can decorate with beach-cruiser painting on the lid or attached objects.
    Keep on cruisin'
